Airlifting supplies to Koya Ike hut.
On the 29th and 30th of May a group of volunteers from Myoko gathered to help transport supplies to Koya Ike Hut near the peak of Mt Hiuchi. The hut is a popular place for climbers to stay overnight while climbing Mt Hiuchi & Mt Myoko. Supplies are airlifted from Sasagamine to the Koya Ike hut via helicopter and then hurriedly unpacked by the volunteers before the next package arrives. Usually all the supplies can be transported in a few hours. However, this year due to bad weather and high wind it took 2 days to complete the runs.

As someone who regularly climbs Mt Hiuchi each year it was amazing to see that the hut which takes 3-4 hrs to reach by foot can be reached in only 5 minutes by the helicopter.
If you are interested in staying in the hut you can contact us for more info and to arrange a booking.
