On the 29th and 30th of May a group of volunteers from Myoko gathered to help transport supplies to Koya Ike Hut near the peak of Mt Hiuchi. The hut is a popular place for climbers to stay overnight while climbing Mt Hiuchi & Mt Myoko. Supplies are airlifted from Sasagamine to the hut via helicopter and then hurriedly unpacked by the volunteers before the next package arrives. Usually all the supplies can be transported in a few hours. However, this year due to bad weather and high wind it took 2 days to complete the runs.

As someone who regularly climbs Mt Hiuchi each year it was amazing to see that the hut which takes 3-4 hrs to reach by foot can be reached in only 5 minutes by the helicopter.
If you are interested in staying in the hut you can contact us for more info and to arrange a booking.
