Shinetsu Five Mountain Trail

September 16 – 18, 2017

Registration for the race starts on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 9PM Japanese time.

This is one of the most popular trail races in Japan. This year there will be two categories of race. The 110km (68miles) race and a brand new 160km (100miles) race.

This new 100-mile challenge will take the racers even deeper in to the Myoko mountains and push them even further. Registration for the race starts on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 9PM Japanese time. It should be noted that the race usually sells out within hours. It is done on a first come first served basis.

The race takes you across a series of 5 mountains which are collectively known as the Shinetsu Gogaku. The 100-mile race has 7 assistance points while the 100km race has 4. Food and drink is available at the aid stations. Pacers are allowed to join you at certain sections of the race.

There will be 400 places available for the new 100-mile race.

There will be 500 places available for the 110km race.

There are a special 30 places available for overseas racers who sign up using the Avid website linked below.

Please note the requirements to be met in order to participate in this event.

100 miles

  1. You must be 18 years old or above.
  2. You must stay in an accommodation arranged by the race the day after the race (Sun. Sept 17) with the exception of local residents. All accommodations are members of the local tourism associations that organizes and provides the staff that makes this race possible. (For international racers, see “Race Packages” for details)
  3. You must have finished a minimum of 2 trail running races over 100 km long within the cutoff times during the past 3 years (May 31, 2014 – May 30, 2017).  (Racer qualifications will be checked upon registration. The trail races can be either in Japan or overseas. Ultra-road marathons/road races over 100km will not be accepted.)

100 km

  1. You must be 18 years old or above.
  2. You must stay in an accommodation arranged by the race on the day before the race (Sat. Sept 16) and after the race (Sun. Sept 17) except for local residents. All accommodations are members of the local tourism associations that organize and provide the staff that make this race possible. (For international racers, see “Race Packages” for details)
  3. You must have confidence to be able to complete the race within the time limit and without getting lost.
